Álex Palou arrives at Laguna Seca with the 2026 IndyCar title already settled: six wins and eight poles decided it before the trip to California. That leaves the 95-lap finale, from 4 to 6 September, as more of a record hunt than a points fight, because Palou owns the outright lap record here himself, 1:08.4168 set in 2023 over the 3.6 km, 11-corner road course. The live championship fight is in Indy NXT, which runs a doubleheader across the weekend and crowns its champion in Sunday's second race.
